Safari Itinerary to Mgahinga National Park
Day 1: Kampala to Kisoro
Depart from Kampala and drive approximately 540 km southwest to Kisoro town. Enjoy the scenic landscapes of rolling hills, tea plantations, and rural villages along the way. Upon arrival, check into Mgahinga Safari Lodge or Travelers’ Rest for dinner and overnight stay, resting in preparation for the next day’s gorilla trekking adventure.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Mgahinga Forest
After an early breakfast, meet your guide at the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla tracking and safety procedures. The trek takes you through dense tropical forests, revealing the gorillas’ natural behaviors and their habitat. Your group will likely track the Nyakagezi group, consisting of 9 gorillas: 3 adult females, 2 silverbacks, 2 juveniles, and 2 infants. Trekking can last anywhere from 3 to 8 hours, depending on the gorillas’ location, and requires good physical fitness.
