Rwanda Gorilla Permit Availability and Booking
After confirming Rwanda Gorilla Permit availability, then booking and reservations are made either directly with Rwanda Development Board (RDB) or through a tour operator like Animal Safaris.
A Rwanda gorilla permit is priced at $1500 per person and it is advisable to book it like 4 months or more before the trekking date. Permits may be available for trekking gorillas at short notice, however, its not good to take chances. So advance gorilla permit bookings are highly recommended for proper safari preparations including accommodation reservation among others. However, in case there is no availability for Rwanda gorilla trekking permits, one can try a gorilla tour option for Uganda. With dozens of gorilla families, Uganda trekking tours are possible in Bwindi forest or Mgahinga Gorilla park.
Age Limit for Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda
- Age limit: Only persons over 15 years of age are allowed park access and trek mountain gorillas.
- Denial: In case one is under the accepted age, a gorilla permit is out rightly denied.
The reasons for age limit include:
- Children may not remain calm when a gorilla charges.
- Children may not handle emergency situations like how adults would.
- Children at times have communicable diseases that may easily be transmitted to mountain gorillas.
- Gorilla trekking is a strenuous activity involving climbing up hills, slopes and walks through valleys and crossing rivers and streams at times.
Despite the age limit on gorilla trekking, children are much welcome to Volcanoes National Park where they may engage in different tourism activities like guided nature walks and community tours.

Visitors are advised against making errors or giving incomplete and false applications. Such scenarios may include things like applying for the wrong product, uploading a false ID / Visa and uploading an expired ID or Visa. All verification of tourist documents is made at park entrance. Visitors that make erroneous, false or incomplete applications will not be permitted to enter the park without considering whether they paid and acquired a system-generated permit.
